True Story I – The Philippines: Preserving a Culture of Life

In December 2012, the Congress of the Philippines finally passed the destructive RH Bill and it was signed into law by President Beningno Aquino. In April 2014 the Supreme Court of the Philippines struck down several provisions of the law, but some of the most objectionable parts were upheld. The legal battle is far from over. We remain engaged with our Filipino brothers and sisters as the battle for life and family enters this new stage. Although the documentary is outdated on this point, the insights it contains remain true, as do its warnings for the future of the Philippines if the provisions of the bill are fully realized and it is not reversed.

“The Philippines: Preserving a Culture of Life” is a story of the struggle for faith and family.

The pro-life values of the Philippines have been under assault for many years by Western pro-abortion advocates trying to pass the anti-life Reproductive Health (RH) Bill. After many failed attempts, the peddlers of the culture of death are now closer than ever to passing the RH Bill, and fundamentally changing the Philippines forever.

Human Life International (HLI) sent our film crew to the Philippines to document first-hand accounts of the battle for the culture of life against the RH Bill. Our team captured interviews with Filipino pro-lifers leading the charge against the RH Bill including Archbishop of Cebu Jose Palma, Philippine Congressman Dr. Anthony Golez, HLI Philippines Director Dr. Rene Bullecer and Dr. Ligaya Acosta, a former pro-abortion health minister in the Philippines who is now HLI’s Regional Director for Asia and Oceania.

“The Philippines: Preserving a Culture of Life” debuted on EWTN in the Philippines, Canada and the United States in August 2011.
