The pro-abortion and pseudo-Catholic group that calls itself “Catholics for a Free Choice” is distributing an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe with the following caption in Spanish: “The love of God and of Mary of Guadalupe is larger. For the lives of women, legal and safe abortion”. On the back of the card, the following text is printed : “Dear Mary of Guadalupe, we thank you because your love is greater, because you listen to us without judging, because you know our heart and you respect the intimacy of our decisions.” CFFC is based in the United States, but is also very active in Latin America, where it is known by the Spanish translation of its name: “Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir” (CDD). It is actually CDD the one distributing this sacrilegious sign in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where a pro-abortion conference is taking place this week, from 28 June to 2 July, 2004. The conference was organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). It is being used by pro-abortion feminist groups, such as CFFC itself; the United Nations (to which ECLAC belongs); and other like-minded organizations, to promote abortion in pro-life Latin America, masked as “reproductive health and rights”, “sexual health” and “gender”. “This is not the first time CFFC-CDD has insulted Our Blessed Mother,” said Mrs. Magaly Llaguno, Executive Director of Vida Humana Internacional (VHI), the largest Catholic pro-life organization in the Hispanic world, with 20 affiliates in Latin America and Spain. “Over ten years ago”, continued Mrs. Llaguno, “CFFC-CDD, with the support of another pro-abortion organization, International Women’s Health Coalition, produced in video in Uruguay, titled “Las lágrimas de Eros” (“The Tears of Eros”). The Executive Director of VHI also explained: “Another example of CFFC-CDD’s sacrilegious use of the Virgin Mary, the most holy and pro-life woman the world has ever known, took place a few years ago in Mexico”. Mrs. Llaguno was referring to a comic book distributed by CFFC-CDD in Mexico and the rest of Latin America, titled “Y María fue consultada para ser Madre de Dios” (“And Mary Was Consulted To Be Mother of God”). The front cover of the comic book shows a young mother praying before a statue of Our Lady and asking her what can she do about her unwanted pregnancy. The idea that is conveyed in the comic book is that if God gave Mary the freedom to decide whether to conceive Jesus or not, then every pregnant woman has the right to decide whether to have the child or to abort him or her. Vida Humana Internacional calls on all faithful Catholics to protest this outrageous affront to Our Blessed Mother, especially to the media present now in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where this pro-abortion conference is taking place. Mrs. Llaguno also called on Catholics “to pray the Rosary and offer sacrifices of reparation to God and His Holy Mother, for this sacrilege committed against her and for the lack of respect toward our most defenseless and innocent brothers and sisters, unborn children”. Vida Humana Internacional is the Hispanic Division of Human Life International (HLI). Founded in 1981, HLI is the largest Catholic pro-life, pro-faith, pro-family organization in the world, totally faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.
