The History of HLI Conferences and Pilgrimages

Human Life International is the pioneer of the pro-life conference. Indeed it was Rev. Paul Marx, O.S.B., who began to educate people from all over the world on the life issues as early as the 1970s at the Human Life Center he set up in Collegeville, Minnesota, which was the precursor of Human Life International. Since HLI's founding in 1981, Fr. Marx has taken the "Gospel of Life" to the nations not only through his extraordinary pro-life missionary trips to 91 countries of the world, but also through his national and international conferences. Since HLI has always emphasized the necessity of prayer in pro-life work, HLI has conducted many pilgrimages to different holy places in the world to make intercession for abortionists and to encourage the valiant pro-lifers who work with us and support us.

This section of the website documents the many conferences, pilgrimages and events of every sort that have been conducted by HLI and its branches over the past 20+ years. The vast array of conference formats is evident when one browses through the list, and this is a tribute to genius of Fr. Marx and to the dynamism of HLI's educational outreach to all. To the extent that we were able, we have documented all of the conferences, places and speakers so that anyone who might have ever attended an HLI conference in the past, from the huge World Conferences to the humble training seminars, might be able to look over these lists and see where and when they received the message of life from the faithful ministry of HLI. Even those who never attended an HLI conference will be able to appreciate the scope of our ministry to the nations through these conferences.

While the days of the large HLI World Conferences seem to be at an end, HLI conferences still continue in other parts of the world. HLI sponsors or participates in pro-life conferences on all five continents every year and will continue to do so as part of its mission to bring the "Gospel of Life" to the nations. We ask for your prayers for all of our valiant HLI leaders who are doing their best to instill in their societies the ethic of the sanctity of human life through the educational outreach of HLI.
